See the slides from Braxton's top rated talk at the most recent MLConf in NYC. The talk compares framework/API approaches to language-based approaches for making Python code fast and scalable.
Discussion of Ufora's new open source software, what's included in the first version and where we're headed on the roadmap. Great crowd and venue. Check it out!
Ufora's VP of Engineering, Ronen Hilewicz talked to a packed crowd about Ufora's new open source release, and a peak under the hood at how Ufora handles data and thread distribution.
Ufora was a graduate of the 2015 FinTech I tnnovation Lab, a 12-week program in which an elite group of growth technology companies are selected to be mentored by senior executives from the top financial services companies and some of New York's leading entrepreneurs and technology luminaries. The FinTech Innovation Lab was co-founded by the Partnership Fund for New York City and Accenture in 2010.
Braxton spoke about the challenges of figuring out how to lay out data across the machines in a cluster for a given computation. For example, when a user wants to run a linear regression on 100GB of data, we need to figure out how to automatically distribute that data across the machines in the cluster in order to minimize travel over the wire. We approach this problem with a number of interesting machine learning techniques.
The $10 Hedge Fund Supercomputer That's Sweeping Wall Street
In one of the most popular articles to be published in Bloomberg on May 20, Kelly Bit featured Ufora in an article that was picked up by several major news outlets.
The article discusses how Ufora can enable quantitative analysts to find the answers to previously-impossible questions in the time it takes to get a cup of coffee.
In the wake of the shuttered Gigaom ‘Structure’ conference, we created ‘UNSTRUCTURED’, the first-ever Data Pop-Up, to unite the brightest leaders in the data science field who are passionate about asking the right questions and identifying problems worth solving. UNSTRUCTURED is a day-long forum for executives, data scientists, developers and business development professionals alike.

Ronen Hilewicz will speak on Fora. Hilewicz is VP of Engineering at Ufora, where Fora is developed. Title: "Exploring a Million Songs". Abstract: We'll investigate LabROSA's million song dataset using regression trees in the Fora programming language. After a brief discussion of the dataset and a review of decision tree regression, we'll show an elegant implementation of decision trees in Fora, a scripting language, and explore the opportunities for parallel computation.
Leading Machine Learning expert joins as Scientific Advisor
Dr. Tony Jebara, Director of the Columbia University Machine Learning Laboratory, joins Ufora as Scientific Advisor. Tony Jebara is Associate Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University. He chairs the Center on Foundations of Data Science as well as directs the Columbia Machine Learning Laboratory. His research intersects computer science and statistics to develop new frameworks for learning from data with applications in social networks, spatio-temporal data, vision and text. Jebara has founded and advised several startups including Sense Networks (acquired by yp.com), AchieveMint, Agolo, Ufora, and Bookt (acquired by RealPage NASDAQ:RP).
Ufora, a leading provider of data science solutions, announced today the launch of the Ufora ED Risk Assessment solution through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Test Drive program.
